James Franco will play Cuban leader Fidel Castro In Alina de Cuba, James will star alongside Ma Maestro, who won the Image Award for her role as Natalia “Nathy” Revuelta, a Cuban-born socialite with whom James had a passionate love affair. Ma Maestro will portray the role in the film.
The screenplay for the movie was written by José Rivera, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “The Motorcycle Diaries,” and Nilo Cruz, who won the Pulitzer Prize. Miguel Bardem is the director of the movie.
They will be joined by actress Ana Villafae, who was previously confirmed to be playing Castro’s daughter, Alina Fernandez. The movie is based on the real-life experiences of Fernandez, a Cuban exile who devoted his life to addressing social issues and was the product of a meeting that took place between Revuelta and Castro.
In the film, which was shot entirely in and around Cartagena and Bogotá, elements of Colombian colonial architecture and design were used to stand in for those of Cuban Havana during the Castro era.
John Leguizamo was unhappy with the casting choices and publicly criticised them, claiming that, “How can this possibly go on? How is it that Hollywood not only chooses to ignore us but also takes our tales without our permission?
Put a stop to the pillaging by Hollywood and the streamers! It’s over, continue your boycott! It’s also tough to tell a story without exaggerating its positive aspects, which is a bad thing to do. Franco is not of Latino descent, but I have nothing against him as a person.” On August 15, the production of the movie is scheduled to get underway.
